The HIV/AIDS pandemic has, over the past three decades, taken a great toll on the African continent, significantly contributing to the vulnerability of its people. In response to this ever increasing threat, 37 First Ladies and representatives of African countries gathered in Geneva to take part in a special meeting that would see the birth of the Organization of African First Ladies against HIV/AIDS (OAFLA) on July 8, 2002.
